Why Do Bloggers 'Award'?

It is not that the usual thanks giving that I’m going to do with this ‘award’ post at the starting lines. I believe that there is something else to say to all of you before I convey my happiness. To start with the post, I have got a different situation.

I was asked by a reader:
What do you beautiful bloggers get by giving/taking 'blogger awards to/from fellow bloggers'? Certainly it’s not a filmfare/oscar/bharat-ratna award right?I would say its sheer waste!

Well, I thank him, for his straight forward question. I appreciate his frankness.

Before you move on to read my lines, I would like you to take a couple of questions. Please think of them and proceed.

What is there in a film fare award or Oscar award to be so popular?
Why Bharat-ratna is rated on top in India?

I would say awards have always been the witnesses of the ‘joy of hard work’. On top of every thing that you get after an award, like fame, money etc, I bet you will be more confident than ever before. And the vice versa is an obvious matter.

Be it the film fare, be it the Oscar, why they have been considered as so reputed among the thousands of different kinds of awards across the globe? I prefer to say, we, the people have always seen some awards with a different eye. It is we, the people who believe that the award is the greatest than any thing else. And again, it is only we, the people who accept that particular award winner as the greatest or so.

If you don’t believe me, try to imagine a situation, where people don’t mind about the person who wins the Oscar. Where the media goes dumb all the way, no channel speaks about the winner. Generally, we follow the media and the media follows us. If we show interest, they will speak about the same issues for many hours in straight. For an example, cricket has been given importance in India among all other contemporary games, just because it is well popular.

And coming back to the blogger awards, they may not be so popular, but inside the blogger world, they call for the joy of encouragement. They are certainly the ones which keep you conscious to your senses when you write next time.

Every person needs the encouragement for every deed that he does, and I stress that is the wish of every individual including me.
According to me, the joy of encouraging and the joy of being encouraged are equally rated.

After all, this is my perception and my understanding towards it; please do share your view on the same.

As you see on my side bar, I’m so encouraged by all of you. I’m sorry that I’m unable to give the ‘Award look’ to this post, by adding the rules and the rest. But I too mean every word that this post should have consisted. Thank you so much for the pleasure.

According to the ‘freaking fabulous award’, I should mention my five obsessions. Here I go:

# Writing (It tops the list as always)
# Day-dreaming (This has been the initiative for many of my posts)
# US open (Want to see a winning Nadal)
# Throat pain (It has been troubling me in every breath I take... :(...)
# Music (I mostly day-dream when I listen to the songs)

And I’m done.

Thanks for the long read. I would say, you all are freaking fabulous readers and superior scribblers.

I repeat my lines about the ‘awards’ discussion:

After all, this is my perception and my understanding towards it; please do share your view on the same.

PS: I still need to do with some awesome tags. I will surely come up with them soon.

I agree with you that encouragement and awards are very important... it does not matter whether it is in a large forum or a small one... Even a one to one word of praise does wonders for ones motivation...

By the way, for your throat I would recommend daily gargle with warm salt water and an ayurvedic tablet called "Yogi Kantika".. It is safe and very effective..

Best

I really don't have high regard for any award. Be it Oscar, Nobel, Bharat Ratna, whatsoever! Because for a simple reason....the talented and worthy are not always recognized....And not always awards are awarded for their contribution/merits... A lot of other factors are also involved... I can give many examples.

But I do appreciate and encourage blogger awards for the fact it is given out of love....as a gift from one blogger to another. Like a standing ovation, after an exemplary performance, where there are no strings attached. ;-)

Moreover, I think a blogger awards another blogger, not just to get their comments...but for something that they enjoyed/learnt/inspired from his/her blog, right?
So I think it is valuable :-))

As I wrote in Rohini's blog, praise does wonders where it is genuine and where it is given to deserving. The awards are nothing but praise in public of a good work done.Everyone has a craving t be praised and appreciated. It is this need that is met by award.
We come across people who encourage us with their praise and when we are done with them we feel built up. We also meet others who are torn down whom we should cheer up . One of the ways we build people up is to praise them. There is power in praising people! Something begins to happen in them, in you too and in your relationship when you praise someone.Let us not however praise someone undeserving but let us not fail to give a pat where it is due.Blogger awards would serve their purpose if given sparingly, not as quid pro quo,but to appreciate really good blogs.Civilian awards and filmy awards have their own parameters not necessarily on merit. They are not comparable with blog awards.

Hi Pram,

We're of the same thoughts about awards.

way back in pre-school, elementary, high school and up to college and in every significant competitions we join as we travel through this life's journey, in one way or another, we're given awards and distinctions for any exemplary achievements we received.

well, for those who don't believe, that's their take on that, and maybe, they've not received any recognition in their lifetime.

but for me, modesty aside, am an achiever who has had much awards since i can remember when and even my kids, all of them followed my footsteps...

nice post Pram, and i do enjoy your thoughts.:-)

the joy of encouraging and the joy of being encouraged are equally rated.
well there is a difference: when you encourage you feel like a teacher and when you are encouraged you feel like a student...but then a teacher is always a student and a student a teacher for his/her teacher....

Hi Prams,
To me an award is simply an acknowledgment. And I think that we all yearn in our hearts for some form of acknowledgment.Weather it be for a great act or the smallest touch that we think we have had on someone. It is , I believe , human nature to want some form of acknowledgment.
Now why is your throat always hurting?
Love Di

Prams- Good one. You have given a fitting answer to a fitting question I would say.
Writing is an art that cannot be simply learnt just like that. Writing is an art which someone needs to 'earn' that talent.
People who are not able to find the beauty in someones writings are missing something in their lives.....

Pramoda Meduri said...

Hi Vijay..thaks alot for this..:) ..and thanks for ur insight..:)

I love the awards and the cohesive it brings to blogger world. And I am sometimes surprised at people's negativity towards them..Not long ago I read a post which ranted about the silliness of awards...what a strange attitude.

Pramoda Meduri said...

HI Jenny...

yeah..i agree with u ..its very strange..Its all about looking in to the things positively that makes us stay happy and enjoy every thing ..

Thank You for ur view ..:)

The value of awards are always in the hands that chose them,so it can be relative..If a jury who is not familiar with films give you the oscar, and if an oscar winning director(awarded by a befiting jury) says a few words on your work, which one would u value? would like to know...awards are definitely an inspiration but as i said is relative....

indrablog said...

Hi Pramoda,
I agree with you that awards are encouragement. And however critical we might be of awards, we like to follow them.

Get rid of that throat pain.

Readers Dais said...

First time to ur blog,no idea abt ur posts nor the awards uve recieved or those who hve given it to u,its nothing realted to it,just my opinion on awards..ok

Pramoda Meduri said...

@ Readers Dais

hello..welcome here..

Thanks for ur insight..yes, it is ofcourse relative, but when we take the awards or when we see the awards, people generally takes the jury for granted ..that makes the diference..

Thanks for ur presence here ..plz keep coming :)

Yeah, i can understand ..even i didnt take ur note from the blogger awards perspective ..thanks again..:)
