Today's Take Home #5

“Unhealthy competition may win the race for you, but remember that the win is always something short of the deserved”

PS: This take home is completely related to my previous post, i.e. 55-NON Fiction #2. I have disabled the comments link in that post. Please do share your opinions here itself. Thank You. By the way, I’m back to my place from my home town.

yes.. indeed it is short of deserved if it is unhealthy. if both members help each other and clear each other's doubts etc, then the marks seem beautiful when high. when a win comes in view of only competition, the other might feel low. happens to me sometimes too... it was a lovely story, and your friendship should flourish even longer time! :)

nice take home too.. lovely write Prams! :)

i remember myself involved in one such 'race' but luckily struggled to get out of the web before the relationship started to get sour.

and over time we never saw it as race against each other but against our ownselves.

thanks for posting.

The Holy Lama said...

Never been in such a race. Always believed that best is being yourself and trying to better it. And found lasting happiness though a bit delayed sometimes. I appreciate your love and respect for your teachers. And in this world we all get our bit only, not less and not more.

Guria said...

Hmm, so it is a 55-non fiction. :)

But enough words for you to get the message bang home.

Liked it. And the lesson too.

Love, G.

Shruti said...

I loved the message that is deciphered at the end :)
I loved it prams :)

Sojo Varughese said...

One question [No offence intended, first thing to cross my mind when I read]: Why is this sort of 'unhealthy competition' predominant among the female students of the species than male students?

Sojo Varughese said...

and by the way, the first comment was because I got confused between the two back to back 55s :)

Hi Prams,
Welcome home. I have to say that I don't care for any form of competition unless it's done purely in fun! Love Di

Yamini Meduri said...

there is never a competetion that is unhealthy....i mean, when your opponent is not as strong as you....there will never be a competetion...then where is the point of deciding whether you win or loose when there is no competetion at all??? this is my take..!!

Dear Prams,
i'm so happy that we can have many things in common!i used to compete with Ashalatha for the first rank in school.at the end of the month ,in the morning assembly, the first rank holder was awarded the medal.the whole month we used to wear the medal n walk around holding our heads high!:)we took turns for first rank but the rapport was missing!
hey, prams, even now,i want to occupy the front seat in any meetings!i want to be the best!the spirit is always high may be healthier now.i want to top all the dept.tests!iw ant to win all the competitions![but in life,i failed].

Is it just me and this laptop or did you take off commenting for the previous post?

anyways.. I wanted to appreciate your honesty and maturity. It speaks volumes about you.

It was a nice non-fiction to read about :)

I think everybody suffers such unhealthy competition one time or the other.. It is a part of growing up I suppose.

Hope you are having fun at home..

S said...

Agree Pramoda ! :)

It's okay to compete, healthy or unhealthy .. not with a friend, but !

Confessions taken, lesson learnt and taken home too, really !

Jack said...

Pramoda,

Healthy competetion is when two persons make honest efforts to be winner while in unhealthy competetion one uses unfair means. In your post term " unhealthy " is not clear.

Take care

Amity said...

ha ha ha...

one wins because of a lil' cheating, that's unhealthy competition...

and that's not a deserved win at all...

i miss you Prams!

you must have had a great vacation...

:)

Dhiman said...

In school there many time we have such 'unhealthy' competitions but later you realize how silly it was .... thats what happens with maturity maybe :D

Suree said...

though i was nit in such a race i have seen them.. usually my position in my class is 3rd.

there is lotta unhealthy competition for 1st rank between the other two guys, i never tried for 1st rank.

but once i got 1st rank as the other two guys failed to score enough to get that..

So Dont think abt the competition, just give ur best is my principle.

Samadrita said...

Uh you bring back old memories. My ex-best friend was my arch nemesis in school. :P
Okay I'm being over-dramatic I guess. The thing is before becoming friends both of us were the top-ranking students of our class. And I always thought of him as someone I'd never like speaking to or being friendly with.Strange how all barriers were broken once we were made to sit on the same bench. :)
I've kind of lost contact with him now but somehow he'll always remain my bestest best friend ever. :)
Nice write anyway!

Very very true Pramoda! We might excel in studies, or at the job, with those feelings of jealousy and unhealthy competition, but when we reach the stage when these don't matter at all, is when those feelings of regret come in. When we wish we had invested more in the relationship than anything else. I've felt the same way as you. You are a wonderful human being Pramoda, stay this way forever!

Manivannan Sadasivam said...

Completely agree with u! Non-fiction made a good read...with a strong message. I've never competed in my life so far. 'cause I feel everyone has their own space in this world. And Everyone has a role to play, and only they can play that role.

(Another factor is am not so intelligent/talented enough to compete with anybody :D)

Cheers!

Loved your post, but look at the other way around. If both of you had studied together and helped each other, and then in the end one would have made it and the other wouldn't, it would have hurted more.Basically we human beings are selfish and that makes us jealous. We feel good if we achieve something, if we can't then we wish that others also don't make it,too.

P.S. Please don't misunderstand me of approving unhealthy competition, just trying to throw light what goes in the mind.

I also had a similar relationships with the 1st boy in our class and me being the 2nd.We never shared anything between us, we even didn't have much talking terms. But today we have a much better relationship. And then I have realized how much the surrounding influence us. As a child, we were not matured in our thoughts,we were completely occupied with the competition, never saw anything in life beyond competition. But as an adult, when we take our independent decision, we have realized the mistakes we did and there is much more to life then win & loss.

Pramoda Meduri said...

HI Mustaf,

welcome to my blog.. and thanks for reading it faithfully..

yes ofcourse, in the end if we dont get the result, its even more paining..and the relationship should not be effected by it..yaa, as an adult, we get more maturity and more liking towards relationships with ppl.. u well said..

Pramoda Meduri said...

And haa..thanks for sharing ur experience..and yaa it happens naturally in childhod or vene in adulthood when competetion occupies us more..

Thanks for ur visit..and plz keep coming here and leave ur views..

Have a nice time..

Hi! Pramoda,
Healthy or unheaelthy competetions always bring out the best from us,but the target should not be the defeat of the other ,thats y now we have grades in the educational system and no more ranks and victory stands- atleast in schools where education has to be something that moulds us for this world & not mere mugging up of definitions & theories

divsi said...

wow:)so well expressed!

Pramoda Meduri said...

Hi Readers dais...

hey..well said...yaa, i too agree with ur views abt the grade system..

Thanks for sharing this...

Pramoda Meduri said...

Hi Divsi,

Thank youu so much...:)

your idea is perfect but I think its too much idealistic...
not that I don't follow it but my experience tends to prove to me that being meek never does any good to u..
plz explain where I got wrong...

Pramoda Meduri said...

HI RSV,

Thanks for the valid point..

Being in a healthy competition always helps up to the expectations, only when both of the competitors feel the healthyness, may be in ur case, it didnt work because ur opponent maynot have been in the right path..or there might have been a other reason, which i'm unable to focus at..

Thank You..plz keep visiting..it helps me in improving myself..
